Africa's resources only benefit the ruling elite and cannot be relied on to unlock her growth especially with the strengthening of Chinese interests. Africa's financial sector is bedevilled with foreign interests and vulnerable to capital flight because of corruption and political instability - the net result is economic marginalization for local populations. The so called rapid urbanization is turning out to be unhealthy slum development and scarcity of water and electricity. Probably we will end up with social insecurity and urban violence like Nigeria and new York which are not recipes for economic growth. Simon Freemantle should read and respond to this!
